For many dynasties Beijing and Xian served as China's capitals while Shanxi Province was one of the earliest centers of Chinese civilization. There are numerous historical relics and sites passed down over the centuries.
Itinerary – 8 Days/7 Nights Datong (2N), Wutaishan (2N), Pingyao (2N) & Taiyuan (1N)
Day01 Arrive Datong
Upon arrival you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.
Day02 Datong (B/L)
After breakfast at hotel, you will have full day city tours including visit to the Yungang Buddhist Caves where most of the caves were carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty between 460 and 494 AD, the Huayan Monastery that has one of the largest Buddhist halls in China, and the Nine Dragon Screen.
Day03 Datong – Wutaishan(B/L)
Most of today’s time will be spent on driving from Datong to Wutaishan. On the way you will see the Hanging Monastery that were built precariously on sheer cliffs and dates back to 1,400 years ago, and the Wooden Pagoda that, initially constructed in the 11th century, is one of the oldest wooden buildings in the world.
Day04 Wutaishan (B/L)
In the morning visit a group of Buddhist Temples at Wutaishan that is one of China’s sacred Buddhist mountain areas. In addition to the temples, the surrounding scenery is great and makes it a relaxing spot.
Day05 Wutaishan - Pingyao (B/L)
After breakfast at hotel, drive to Pingyao. You will see the Shuanglin Temple that has over 2,000 pieces of colored statues on the way.
Day06 Pingyao (B/L)
Most of today’s time will be spent on the old city of Pingyao that is one of the world’s Heritage Sites and also one of the best preserved of its kind in China. The city keeps its original style though it is over 600 years old. One of the must-sees is the Ming and Qing Street that are in the heart of the city and full of original shops and banks.
Day07 Pingyao - Taiyuan (B/L)
The city Taiyuan itself does not have too much to see. Today on the way from Pingyao to Taiyuan, you will have three sightseeing spots. Family Wang and Chang’s Compound that were built during a time span of two centuries and a living museum. Jinci Temple that is 25km to the southwest of Taiyuan and has many Buddhist relics.
Day08 Depart Taiyuan (B/L)
You will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
