Beijing Day Trips Explained

You can enrich your vacation by adding to your itinerary our optional private tours, SIC (Seat-In-Coach) tours or evening activities.
In addition to the five must-sees – the Badaling Great Wall, Ming Tombs, Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven which are included by almost all tour operators, Beijing actually has much more to offer.
For instance, there are a few sections of the Great Wall which are open to tourists. The Badaling section is surely the most well known but it is also the most crowded especially during the peak season. Comparatively, Mutianyu and Jinshanling are more scenic and less crowded.
Besides, places like Jietai Temple, Tanzhe Temple and Capitol Museum are less frequented but truly worthwhile spending some time visiting. Guanyintang is a newly opened art street which is full of art galleries featuring China’s latest fine art works. What’s more, new landmarks such as the National Grand Theater, CCTC Tower, Bird’s Nest, Dashanzi Arts Center, etc. are becoming more popular nowadays.
Beijing has a lot to offer when it comes to shopping. The famous Silk Alley (which was converted into a brand new modern building) has a wide variety of goods ranging from leather jackets to cashmere scarves. The fun part is that the vendors are always willing to bargain with you. It is the same case with the Hongqiao Pearl Market where it has almost anything you can think of but it is particularly famous for its pearl jewelry. The Panjiayuan Antique Market, also know as “the dirt market” is a must-see if you are in Beijing during the weekend.
As for evening activities, you are not bound by cliché touristy places. You have the freedom to choose dinner or show only or both. The Houhai, Sanlitun and Dashanzi are all places of great night life, with many bars and restaurants to choose from.
